  This is the reason I'm here to begin with. Back in the '50s, this was the Coast Guard station. My dad was stationed aboard a Coast Guard ship here. Having grown up in Ohio, he decided he liked this part of the world better. Immediately upon graduating medical school, he & mom packed us all up moved to Clearwater Beach. Thanks, dad! Now, as the Port of St. Pete, it has hosted some very interesting boats/ships.
